What’s This All About?

One photo a week (or more if you want) based on a weekly theme. Photos will be displayed on the homepage, as well as all updates and theme announcements.

Here’s how it works:

  1. On Sunday, the theme of the week is announced
  2. Sometime during the week, take a photo based on the theme
  3. Upload your photo to Flickr (instructions available on the Flickr website)
  4. Tag your photo with a special code (see below)
  5. Visit the website next Sunday to see everyone’s photos and get the new theme

How to tag your photos:

Flickr allows you to tag a photo with any number of tags that you want. For example, if you take a photo of a rainbow on a sunny day, you can add tags like “rainbow”, “sunny”, “weather”, etc. This allows other people looking for photos of rainbows, etc. to find yours. To get your photo on our new website, you need to add a special kind of tag called a “machine tag”. It looks like this:

paw52:week=1

Just add it the same way you would any other tag, but don’t forget the colon and the equals sign. “paw52” is just a code I made up that stands for “photo-a-week for 52 weeks”. After the equal sign you will need to put the correct week number. So the example above is for the first week. The tag for the second week will be: paw52:week=2. Am I over-explaining this?

Anyway, our website will look for photos with that tag each week and automatically display them for us to enjoy.

FAQ

Why aren’t my photos showing up?
Check out this answer from Flickr. If you have a new account, you have to upload at least 5 photos and wait a couple days for your account to be reviewed before your photos start showing up in searches.

This website was built in WordPress by Doug Waldron just for fun. The Flickr API is great, but phpFlickr makes it a whole lot easier!

The logo is set in Calluna, the headings in Fontin Sans, both created by the amazingly talented and generous Jos Buivenga. And Font Squirrel takes most of the pain out of embedding fonts.
